Why Durban Will Always Call Me Home

I have traveled to many different parts of the world.

However, no place can come close to Durban in South Africa!

Summarizing all my love for Durban would be difficult, so I will pick a few top highlights to talk about in this article.

I was born in Durban and lived there for most of my life. I moved to Johannesburg about 10 years ago.

Johannesburg is about 571 kilometers away from Durban. One hour by plane and just under 7 hours if I drive.

Durban always makes my heart, beat with joy.

Do not get me wrong!

Johannesburg is great!

However, Durban will always be my home.

The variety of food always keeps me wanting more and more. The best curries! I love curry! The spicier the better.

I have always found the people in Durban extremely warm and friendly. My childhood memories of our family get-togethers were special.

Durban people have a unique accent. Some may disagree with me, however, if you know Durban well, you will agree.

I always keep my accent. It is what makes me feel closer to my roots.

I hate when that accent is lost, and a twang overtakes someone. To me, that is a turn-off.

Oh, and the weather in Durban is like summer all year round although climate change has changed it a bit in recent years.

This week I missed Durban so much more as it is Diwali and my memories of Diwali in Durban keep coming to mind.

The cost of living is cheaper than in Johannesburg. I remember the time my cousin from Canada visited Durban, he was overjoyed that the food was so affordable and tasty in Durban.

There are many therapeutic destinations I love to visit. The Drakensberg Mountains and the Valley of a Thousand Hills are my favorite spots to unwind.

The beaches always attract me. The sounds of the Durban waves keep me at peace.

The atmosphere in Durban in December is electrifying. Extremely vibey and happy indeed.

I cannot wait to visit Durban this December.
